Nina Joan Smith, 83, of Bradenton, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Blake Medical Center. Born July 4, 1933 in Olive Branch, IL, she was the oldest daughter of the late Jacob Cox and Martha Pauline (Campbell) Koehler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Clarence Smith; sister, Mary Jayne Stewart; and step-father, Lloyd Frank Koehler. Nina was a loving wife and mother. She worked the majority of her life in the hospitality and retail industries before retiring from DeSear’s Appliance and TV in 2009. She was an avid reader of mystery novels, a passionate grower of orchids, a collector of bells, and dog lover. She is survived by her children: Brooks E. Smith of Bradenton, FL, and Stephany A. Smith of Hickory, NC; grandson Todd L. Smith of Fitchburg, WI; brother Lloyd K. Koehler of Garrison, MT; 28 nieces and nephews and 5 cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 2200 - 26th Street West in Bradenton, FL. After the service, a reception will be held. All who attend are requested to bring shareable food to enjoy in Nina’s memory.
