Billy Wayne Lewis' Obituary
Billy Wayne Lewis, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away April 1, 2016. Billy was born July 7, 1947 in Conway, SC and raised in St. Petersburg, FL. After high school, Billy joined the US NAVY and was stationed on the USS Sellers. After his service to his country, he secured a job with South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G). His tenure there lasted until his medical retirement after being hit by high voltage. Billy then worked the next 20+ years as a Civil Engineer for the Charleston Air Force Base. Billy married Sarah Maria Liebenrood in 1990 and they moved from Charleston to Florida in 2004. Billy was a lifelong member of Goose Creek Masonic Lodge 401. As a Shriner, Billy was very active in the Shriner's Children Hospital. He was involved with the Shriner's Hospital Million Dollar Club, as well as donating his time as a "Roadrunner," transporting children and their families to and from the hospital. Billy was of the Lutheran faith. In his spare time, Billy enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling and buying and trading corvettes in the Corvette Club. Billy was a man with a strong work ethic, compassion, zest for life, giving, supportive, loving and perhaps a little stubborn at times. He enjoyed a good cheeseburger and a Diet Coke. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Billy W. Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 26 years, Sarah Maria Lewis, of Sun City Center, FL, sons; Robert W. Lewis, of St. Petersburg, FL, Fred (Robin) Crumley, III, of Denver, CO, daughter, Anna E. (Peter) Lewis Stonefield, of Charleston, SC, brother, Randy H. (Marcia) Lewis, of St. Petersburg, FL, sister, Marjorie Anne (Archie) Hildreath, of Spring Hill, FL, his father, Robert H. Lewis, of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren; William Stonefield, Cameron Stonefield, Morgan Stonefield, Mara Cellesi, and Fred Crumley, IV. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Lewis in 2012 and his first wife, Irene Francis Lewis in 1988.
Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 at Skyway Memorial Funeral Home, from 2:00-3:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 3:00. Mr. Lewis will be laid to rest, with military honors at Bushnell National Cemetery, later this week, date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Billy Lewis’ name may be made to Omar Shrine Temple, 176 Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
