David P. Miller's Obituary
David P. Miller, 87, Bradenton, passed away Feb. 8, 2014. David was born November 20, 1926 in Lancaster, PA to the late George and Elva (Hackerty) Miller. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. After his military service he lived in Coatesville, PA where he was a life member of the Brandywine Fire Company. He moved to Bradenton in 1966 and worked locally for the former DeSear's Appliance Store in Bradenton as the Service and Sales Manager and retired after many years of service. David continued affiliation with fire service by becoming a life member of the Westside Fire Department which is now known as West Manatee Fire and Rescue where he formerly served as an Assistant Chief. He was also a former chairman of the Westside Fire Commissioners, and was the first President of the Manatee County Fire Association. His other memberships include the Calvary Baptist Church in Bradenton, past member of the American Legion, Amvets, V.F.W., member of the Manatee Lodge #31 of F&AM, Consistory of Tampa Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple of Tampa, and serving with the Highway Patrol Auxiliary, and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office as a Unit Commander with the Handicapped Parking Enforcement Unit. David was predeceased by a daughter Sally Ann Draper, two brothers, one sister, and a granddaughter, Roxanne. He is survived by his loving wife Sarah P. Miller of Bradenton, son, Glenn Miller of Bradenton, daughter, Elaine Creasser of Charlotte, NC, five grandchildren; Jesse and Chelsea Miller, Matthew (Crystal) Creasser, Jennifer (Zack) Bridges, Tiffany Miller, four great-grandchildren; Kylie, Chasidy, Heavenly and Damian, and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Avenue W. with services to follow at 2 PM. Interment will follow at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church in his memory.
