Denise Poynter's Obituary
Denise C Poynter, 81, of Palmetto, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Manatee Memorial Hospital. The family wishes to thank her faithful friend and physician of 45 years, Dr. Raymond Raitz. She was born March 11, 1941, on the family farm in Clinton, New York, she was one of six children of the late Robert (Bob) and Elizabeth (Betty Brown) Burrows. She had a spirit to tackle anything. She held jobs that were not common for women, and she did them well. She was an inspector, a fork-lift operator, and owner of Pix Place and Bubba’s in Palmetto and Bubba’s Too in Bradenton. She married her childhood love of her life Kenneth (Tony) Pick and raised a beautiful family. After his death in 1991, she found love a second time and married William Poynter. Denise lived life to the fullest. She was hard-working, had a generous heart and was a jokester. She won several jitter-bug dance contests with Tony, loved singing, and even produced her own album singing all her Patsy Cline favorites. Some favorite memories were meeting Johnny Cash, June Carter, and Richard Nixon. She was a member of several social clubs including, VFW and member of the ladies auxiliary (Denise held the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary), American Legion, Moose and Eagle Club. She was the first recipient in Manatee County to receive a TAVR heart valve and 6 years later had a secondary one placed inside the original. She will be remembered most as a devoted sister, loving mother, and a blessed grandmother/great grandmother. Her family brought her the greatest joy.
Along with her parents and both her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Brown.
She is survived by her loved children, Kim (David) Bailey, Ken Pick, Jr, Keith (Lori) Pick and Kelly (Robert) Clifford; her beloved grandchildren, Heather (Jesse) Faught, Jessica (Josh) Ryherd, Courtney (Jeff) Robinson, Kari (Teo) Garcia, Kenny (Katie) Pick, Tony (Brianna) Pick, Brandon Pick, Kyle Pick, Bethany (Eric) Pick, Matthew (Alyssa) Pick, Hannah (Josh) Rentz and Jake (Hannah) Lipinski; her cherished great-grandchildren, Micah, Isaac, Silas, Jude, Evangeline, Alexandra, Caitlyn, Sarala, Oliver, Marshall, Bayne, Teo Jr, Coby, Nala, Bella, Hadley, Brady, Amelia, Roman and three on the way; her siblings, Douglas (Mary) Burrows, Anne (George) Gennings, Sandra Schultz and Frederick (Louise) Burrows; and many precious nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at a visitation on Thursday evening, July 21, 2022, at Skyway Memorial Funeral Home from 5-8 pm where funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 1 pm with burial to follow in Skyway Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Skyway Memorial Funeral Home.
