Derrick had the most extreme personality I've ever known. He was loyal as a friend, aggressive as a nemesis, compassionate as a man should be, Non forgiving as a human could be. He was hard on people he felt were taking advantage of either him or a good friend. He felt it his duty to protect children and the elderly. He is Uncle Derrick to my Daughter and Sons. He was my friend to the point of a brother. He will be missed very much.
My best and Charished memory took place at Neiman Marcus where we had been shopping. I had been hurt badly In a recent accident and wanted to get shoes. He saw me hesitate after finding a pair I liked. He said "hey bro, if it's the money I got you. I said "no, I can't bend enough to put on socks" and started laughing off my embarrassment. He snatched a pair of socks off the display and sat me down. Without hesitation he dropped to his knees, and began to remove my sandles. He put the socks and shoes on my feet to try. He didn't hesitate nor care what it looked like to anyone. Maybe that doesn't seem a big deal. But if you can picture him and I together at that moment. In any case, I have many great memories.
To his Mom and Dad, He thought you were the perfect definition as a man and a father and impossible to follow. Adrian he was loved by many, with a vast array of friends from all walks of life. He was twice as good as he ever was bad. I'm very sorry for your loss and know he would want you to live every min to its fullest.
Love always,
Yonnie
Lord wrap your loving hands around him and protect the inner child that yearns for understanding and make him into the Warrior of your word that you instilled in his DNA. Amen
