I have been in touch with Dick/Richard over the years because we were friends and classmates at Miami Beach High School in the late 40s, having graduated together in 1951. At school, we had a large excellent choir and a barbershop quartet, which groups were popular in those days. Dick was the baritone in the quartet and I was the bass. Also, he was a soloist at various functions at the school, and our choir travelled all over the state of Florida and won honors in State competitions. So,, we practiced together and had many things in common. After graduation, I went off to college and Dick tried his hand in the entertainment business. So, we went our separate ways seeking our own destinies. I caught up with Dick after I retired and around the time of our 60th Reunion. Then, we had pleasant conversations about our high school experiences and as aged retirees, our respective nagging health problems. Dick has always been an optimistic person and he was reliable and a great organizer, and I had great respect for his talent. Though the inevitable will happen to all of us at some point, it is always difficult to lose a good friend with whom one has shared experiences during our early years. Though I don't know and have never met any of Dick's immediate family, please accept my condolences on his passing. Sincerely, Lester Green, Bethesda, MD.
While Dik was certainly an incredible talent on the stage, he was even more authentic in person. Everyone felt they were old friends the moment they met Patsy and Dik, as a couple they were that caring and generous. His wisdom in helping Patsy continue her journey as a professional photographer in addition to being partners in work and in life is also notable. Dik shared his talent, his laughter, his kindness and zest for life at every opportunity and there were always smiles and a tear or three at each rendition of I Did it My Way- his signature song. He certainly did always do it his way.
We remember how tirelessly he worked for the community, how deeply he cared for the artists here and advocated for them, as well as for the artists he brought to us and to surrounding venues. The original Artists Guild at Waterlefe was a lucky recipient of his support. For the many years he was a Waterlefe Board Director, he guided our community with thoughtfulness and integrity, knowing he wanted only the best for this beautiful place he loved, and that we call home.
His twinkling eyes, ever present smile and devotion to Patsy are remembered by all - there are not enough words to express how much we will miss him Every memory he left us with is beautiful - and that is a rare gift indeed.

I was his computer guy and always enjoyed out sessions together and talking and hearing some of his life's stories. I will miss him.

It has been my pleasure to know Dik as a neighbor and friend. Godspeed Dik
