Doris E. Youmans' Obituary
August 9, 1920 – July 4, 2016
Doris E. Youmans passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on July 4, 2016 at the Maranatha Manor in Sebring, Florida. She was 95 years of age. Doris was born in Wells Bridge, New York, August 9, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Glen and Edith (Stone) Youmans. She graduated from Unadilla Central School 1939 and Plattsburgh State Teachers College in 1943.
She taught two years at Mt. Upton, New York and two years at Johnson City Junior High School in Johnson City, New York.
Doris accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior as a child and later dedicated her life to serve Him wherever and whenever He should lead. Subsequently, she received her Bible training at Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, New York (now located in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania).
Doris served 37 years as a missionary/teacher in Japan with Baptist Mid-Missions. Her ministry included starting and maintaining a Christian bookstore, teaching the Bible to children and youth, as well as teaching English to Japanese professionals. She was also actively involved in Baptist Mid-Missions’ Japanese Bible camp ministry and helped start the Fukushima Baptist Church in Fukushima, Japan. In 2005, she was recognized by Baptist Bible Seminary with an Outstanding Service Award for her years of ministry in Japan.
Doris is survived by her sister Marjorie Clark of Oneonta, New York and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Beulah Smith, brother-in-law Tom Smith, brother-in-law Jack Clark and nephew Jack Clark, Jr.
