Dorothy Ruth Churchill's Obituary
Churchill, Dorothy Ruth, 77, of Sun City Center, passed away at home on Saturday, May 17, 2014. She was born on July 27, 1936 in Newark, New Jersey. Dorothy grew up in Packanack Lake and graduated from Wayne Valley High School. She is a graduate of William Paterson University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Dorothy was a third grade teacher for 29 years at the Aaron Decker School in Butler, NJ. She received the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program "Certificate of Recognition" for having made exceptional contributions as a New Jersey public school teacher. Dorothy was proud to be a mother of twins (Brian & Jeffrey) and was a founding member of the Twins and Triplets Mother’s Club of the Lake Area. She was a member of the Butler United Methodist Church. After she retired, she moved with her husband to Lakewood, New Jersey where they resided at the Four Seasons Spa and Country Club. Concurrently, they acquired a condo in Sun City Center, Florida, thus becoming “snow birds.” She served on several leadership teams at the SCC United Methodist Church and participated in the weekly interdenominational Bible study program. She enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Pages of Life Christian Book Store. She was nominated to serve as President of the South Shore Chapter of the American Association of University Women. Moving to Freedom Plaza in Sun City Center in 2011, she served on the Freedom Plaza Scholarship Fund Board of Directors, as well as the Graduate School for Seniors Committee. Dorothy loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She especially enjoyed getting together with her college friends each year in the fall. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles “Chip” Churchill, and her three sons: Brian (Kathleen), Jeffrey (Lori) and David (Virginia) and grandchildren, Brittany, Kristen, Jacklyn, Kelly, Kevin, Steven, Alex and Adriana. She is also survived by her sister Janet (Charles) and her nieces Kathleen, Karen and nephew Charlie. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Pages of Life Book Store at the SCC United Methodist Church, 1210 Del Webb Blvd West, Sun City Center, FL 33573.
