Eldon William Shuey's Obituary
Eldon William Shuey, 84, of Sun City Center, FL passed away on May 30, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Eldon was born in Burchard, Nebraska to the late; Willis Aubrey and Erma Mary Steiner Shuey. He attended the University of Nebraska and received his Pharmacy degree in 1951. Eldon then served in the Army in Korea for two years. He returned to the University of Nebraska to attend graduate school. He completed a Masters degree in Microbiology and was awarded a PhD. in Biochemistry in 1961. Eldon had a 35 year career with Eli Lilly Company in Indianapolis, IN. He was in the biochemistry research laboratories several years and then became involved in research and development, retiring in 1993 as Executive Director of the Chemical and Biochemical component. Because of his diverse background in pharmacy, microbiology and chemistry, he served in a number of Research and Development components during his tenure at Eli Lilly. After retirement, Eldon and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Fort Myers, FL, where they lived for 21 years. They moved to Sun City Center, FL in 2015. Eldon enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading and playing bridge. He was a 20 year volunteer with the Edison-Ford Winter Estates in Ft. Myers. However, what Eldon enjoyed most was spending time his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Eldon Shuey is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Shuey, of Sun City Center, FL, sons; William (Anita) Shuey, Steven (Dana) Shuey, daughter, Mary Jane (Tom) Hoover, 9 grandchildren, 6 siblings and extended family.
The funeral service for Mr. Shuey will be held on June 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.
