Irene Brooman's Obituary
Irene (Yelland)
Brooman
Jul 1, 1939 - Jan 1, 2019
Irene was born in 1939 to parents
Albert and Ivy and grew up in Barking, England as an only child. Irene had a love for the arts and music, and enjoyed playing classical piano. She also enjoyed travelling - absorbing the sights, sounds and rich culture of Europe.
Irene studied physical therapy
in college, and was admitted to The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. One of her patients was a charming and handsome young college student who had injured himself playing rugby - Eric Brooman. Not only did she heal his body, she won his heart. They were
married in 1962.
Irene and Eric moved to the
United States in 1966, where Irene raised their children Andrew and Susan, and continued to work in healthcare - first as a volunteer at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and later as a dental hygienist. Later in life, Irene switched careers
and became a real estate agent.
Irene enjoyed spending time outdoors with her family - exploring the Smoky & Blue Ridge mountains - camping,
fishing, hiking, and boating. She also loved to return to the UK, especially to Cornwall, where she and Eric spent many vacations at their favorite retreat - The Nare Hotel. It was clear that while Irene’s home was in the US, her heart remained in the UK.
Irene passed away on January 1, 2019 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. She is survived
by her husband Eric, son Andrew, and daughter Susan. She will be greatly missed.
