James P. Kilcoyne's Obituary
James Patrick Kilcoyne, passed away at his home in Palmetto FL, surrounded by his family on July 16, 2021. The beloved husband of the late Hanora “Bridie” (O’Connell) Kilcoyne, he was 88 years old.
Jimmy was born in New York. He was raised and educated in Worcester, MA.. He was the son of Irish immigrants, the late Patrick and Kathleen Kilcoyne. Jimmy proudly served his country with two tours of duty in the armed forces. His first tour was with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served from 1952 to 1956. Jimmy served on the USS Tanner and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the World War II Occupation Service Medal. In 1957 he joined the Airforce and served his country honorably from 1957 to 1960. Jimmy was the recipient of the Armed Forces Longevity Service Armed Award which was awarded to all service members of the U. S. Air Force who completed four years of honorable active service within any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
It was while home in Worcester, on leave from the Air Force, that he would meet the love of his life, Bridie O’Connell. They were married in 1959 at Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church, Cahersiveen, Ireland and lived in England while serving in the U.S. Airforce before returning to Worcester where together they raised their five children.
Jimmy had a career in the food service industry. While living in Massachusetts he worked at Denholm’s Dept. Store, Clark University, Worcester State College and the Masonic Nursing Home. In 1986 Jimmy and Bridie moved to Pennsylvania. In 1989 they relocated their family to Bradenton Florida. While living in Florida he worked at Ringling School of the Arts in Sarasota and Bollettieri /IMG Academy in Bradenton. He then opened his own café in Bradenton called Main Street Café. It was Jimmy’s dream job. With his outgoing personality and friendly demeanor, it was the perfect job for Jimmy.
Jimmy’s family brought him immense joy. He was proud of his five children and all their accomplishments. As a family they had a memorable trip to Ireland in 1985 where they were able to enjoy spending time with their relatives. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren. When they walked in the door his face would light up! Jimmy enjoyed playing cards, and cribbage. He was also a talented craftsman.
Jimmy will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his dedication and love for his family.
Jimmy was the beloved husband of 60 years of Hanora “Bridie” (O’Connell) Kilcoyne. He was the loving father of Patrick Kilcoyne of Englewood, FL, Kathy Baillargeon of Parrish FL, Kerry Kilcoyne, Kelly Kilcoyne and Kim Sawdy and her husband Mickey all of Palmetto, FL. Jimmy is the proud grandfather of Matthew & Kayla Baillargeon and Baylee, Olivia & Curry Sawdy. He was the brother of John & his wife Mary Alice Kilcoyne of West Boylston, Patricia & her husband Joseph Philbin of Yarmouth and the late Anne Marie O’Malley & her husband Thomas, Theresa O’Rourke & her husband Joseph & Joseph Kilcoyne. Jimmy was the brother-in-law of Patrick & (late) Ethel O’Connell, Michael “Hauleen” & Noreen O’Connell, Maureen & Milton Moran and Geraldine & Lenny DeMauro. Jimmy is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at Skyway Mausoleum Chapel, 5200 US Highway 19N, Palmetto Florida, on July 31st at 11:00 a.m.. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
