James Wesley Maxwell's Obituary
James (Jim) Wesley Maxwell, 83, of Ellenton, FL passed away April 20 at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Jim was born May 2nd, 1942 in Albion, Pennsylvania, the son of Wilson C. and June E (Scowden) Maxwell.
Jim operated a printing shop for many years. He was a 1962 graduate of Northwestern Sr. High School, Albion, PA. Following his retirement, Jim built and sold bat houses, all over the country and has been nick named, “Batman Jim”.
Jim was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Surviving are his beloved partner of 37 years, Carolie Holbrook (Moppy), his sister Jane Wygle. His children, Tom (Debbie), Dan (Jennifer), Denise (Jose) and Leslie (Doug), and Carolie’s children, Rhonda Edwards (Ron), Randy Holbrook (Kim) Raina Connelly (Mike), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many friends and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, (Wilson and June Maxwell) a grandson and a baby granddaughter and a baby great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Skyway Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the mausoleum chapel. Inurnment will follow at Skyway Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested to make donations to a charity of the donor’s choice.
