Janet Luce Thompson (née Hanrahan), aged 92, passed away on January 3, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. Born on September 5, 1932, in Longview, Texas. Janet was the youngest of 3 girls, her father Joseph Hanrahan and mother, Lucille, raised the family in Cisco Texas. He was a successful businessman in the oil industry and took great care and thought to the upbringing of his girls, although his favorite daughter was probably Janet.
Janet was known for her profound contributions to the art world, with her works held in private collections across the United States and Europe. Her vibrant paintings, inspired by her travels to exotic locales such as the Fiji Islands, China, Spain, and Mexico, reflect her philosophy that "painting is not a choice, it chooses you—you paint because you must."
Janet's adventurous spirit was also evident in her career as a Pan American flight attendant and her role as an extra in the movie "South Pacific." She cherished her homes in San Diego and Irvine, CA, and had a deep love for the Pacific Ocean.
Janet's life was enriched by her relationships with her family. She is survived by her nephews, Dr. Robert Jansa and William Jansa; niece, Sharon Jansa; sister-in-law, Martha A. Fritch; and former spouse of 29 years, Stanley Thompson.
A private graveside service will be held at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto, FL, honoring Janet's life and her significant contributions to the art world. Her legacy as a renowned artist and beloved family member will be cherished by all who knew her.
