John Alexander Harrower's Obituary
John Alexander Harrower, passed away January 20th, 2015. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Alexander and Esther Harrower. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Guy Alexander; daughters, Jan Elizabeth and Jyl Anne.
John holds the record for pole vaulting from Cooley High School where he attended in Detroit, Michigan. He served our country in the US Army during WWII being one of the first squadrons to land in Japan following the bombing of Hiroshima. John went on to earn 2 Master’s Degrees. One from the University of Michigan and one from Michigan State. He was a teacher, then principal and later, a school administrator. He was responsible for aiding in the desegregation of schools in Holly, Michigan. After moving to Florida 25 years ago, he became a math professor at Manatee Community College (now State College of Florida).
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jay Marian Crane and her fiancé Randy of Bradenton, Florida; sons, Ian Harrower and his wife Terri of Fort Myers, Florida and Don Harrower; brother, Donald Harrower and his wife Barbara of Michigan; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
