Joseph R Ganey's Obituary
Joseph “Ray” Ganey, Sr., age 86, residing in Wimauma, Florida passed away on April 19, 2023.
Ray was born on November 1, 1936 to John Thomas and Anzie Lee (Cobb) Ganey. He was born in Holmes County Florida. Raised in Geneva Alabama along with his siblings; three (3) brothers and four (4) sisters.
Ray married Vera Mae (Odom) Ganey in 1956. April 27th would have been 67 years of extraordinary pure love, as Amy their granddaughter spoke it. They had four children, Joe Ganey (Diana), Bernice Shewbridge, Carmen Bischoff (Wayne), Priscilla Henderson (Paul).
Ray lived a full life loving the Lord and following his word, daily. He was an amazing but simple man. The Lord and love for his family is all he needed to make him happy. Whether you were family or not, by blood, to Ray you were family. He had built every home provided, for his family, with his own hands along with his wife, Vera, as his helper. He and Vera raised their four children in Bradenton Florida where their two eldest children live to date along with most of their grandchildren. With seven grandchildren (Amy, Ray, Tasha, Kenny, Nick, Brad, Brandy), family meant everything to Ray. He and Vera also have 19 great grandchildren. In their early days of marriage he enjoyed fishing with Vera, and on occasion taking his Mother-in-law, Thelma, along for some fun time to Lake Okeechobee in their RV. They had a Pontoon boat that brought a lot of pleasure as well. Their grandson, “captain Brad”, called it the “contoon” at a younger age (LOL). There was always more fun to be had when any of the grandchildren went along with them. These were very involved grandparents.
Ray loved working with his hands when he wasn’t working on his job. He would build fishing cast nets, made bird feeders, squirrel houses, and even dustpans out of license plates along with making pecan “picker-uppers” out of Slinky’s! From time to time he and mom would make quilts together when it was too cold to be outdoors. They were always involved with something to do with their hands.
He was a plumber for most of his working years. With 17 years in the maintenance department for The Shores, a local retirement home. After retiring and moving to Geneva Alabama he then worked with a friend doing local plumbing and/or odd jobs. Then, of course, built another home with Vera.
Ray always had a garden growing in every yard he had to provide food for the family, you could normally find a hog or two and possibly some chickens being raised as well. He was a wonderful provider and guider for us all.
Dad spoke of Isaiah 26:3 often the past few years……
Isaiah 26:3 is known as the perfect peace scripture. It gives us directions for finding that perfect peace that keeps you calm even when life's storms are swirling around you. The secret to finding this peace is keeping your mind on God. God will keep you in perfect peace when you keep your mind on Him and trust Him with everything in your life.
A Public visitation will be Monday April 24, 2023 from 10-11am with a service at 11am at Skyway Memorial Gardens 5200 US Highway 19 Palmetto, FL 34221.
