Remembering Ken and his little dog Jimmy today. We met 15 years ago at Brooksby Village became friends before he left for Tampa Florida. This is about the memory tree he planted in memory of his wife Claire, who had to just before we moved in. We never met her. The story is very important to us. We feared the tree had been torn down in the midst of massive construction in the McIntosh courtyard where it was planted. We passed it every day thinking of our little game with Jimmy every Sunday, my late husband Ken LAURENCE would plant a treat under the tree for Jimmy. We would find odd scratching at our door in the form of a thank you note from Jimmy, obviously written by Ken. Many trees did not survive construction, and I could not find it for a long time because the view was blocked, but just last Sunday looking out a window of a newly opened view of the courtyard as it will now be there was Jimmy’s tree still small, but proud copper leaves waving in the wind it survived. I just wanted to let the family know we remember Ken and Jimmy every day I’ve written a poem about it, which will be read on television on Friday wishing you all the best weather smile of a happy memory.
