Margaret Lynn Coon's Obituary
Margaret Lynn "Peggy" Coon (née Sloat), age 83, passed away on January 2, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida.
Born on November 18, 1942, in Pontiac, Michigan, Peggy was the daughter of William G. Sloat II and Mary Margaret Toland. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics from Bowling Green State University in 1964.
In 1965, Peggy relocated with her parents to Bradenton, where she taught at Walker Junior High School, followed by Manatee High School. After the birth of her first daughter in 1973, she joined Palmetto High School and made a lasting impact by establishing Manatee County's first high school-based preschool program. She remained there until her retirement in 2006, devoting nearly four decades to nurturing young minds.
In early 1968, Peggy met the love of her life, Frank Coon, and they married that December. Their 57-year marriage was marked by love and partnership.
Together they raised two daughters: Cathy Schemenauer (Brett) and DeDe Snider (Danny). Peggy was a proud grandmother to Daniela, Derek, and Adam Schemenauer; Cane and Finn Snider.
Her Christian faith was central to her life. In 1987, she became a founding charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Bradenton.
Peggy was preceded in death by her sister Sue Ann Girard.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 8, 2026, at 5:30 PM at Faith United Methodist Church, 7215 1st Ave W., Bradenton. Peggy loved color, so guests are encouraged to wear colorful, Florida attire.
Her care is entrusted to Skyway Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
