Mary Ann Fayd'herbe de Maudave's Obituary
Mary Ann Fayd’herbe de Maudave, the matriarch of our family, passed away on December 15, 2022 after a brief illness. Born Mary Ann du Toit in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 30, 1951, Mary Ann was the eldest child of 5 siblings. She moved with her family to Durban in 1962, where she later met her future husband, Cyril Fayd‘herbe de Maudave at age 15. She married Cyril at age 20 and the couple had two daughters, Karen and Chantal. They lived, worked and raised their family in KwaZulu Natal. In 2007, Mary Ann and Cyril immigrated to the United States, and settled in East Windsor, New Jersey. Some of her many hobbies included sewing, listening to music, reading novels, watching movies and forensic science based TV shows, and travel - especially on cruise ships. While her cocktail of choice was a Dark and Stormy, she also enjoyed wine. Mary Ann was a true bonne vivante. Mary Ann was well traveled. She had road-tripped around the USA extensively, and had visited Dubai, Holland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Egypt, Italy, Mauritius, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Mexico. She lived the last 15 years of her life in the United States, and retired in 2020. She moved to Sarasota, Florida in January, 2022. Mary Ann was known for her love of cooking and baking for family gatherings, her kindness, warmth and generosity, her intense love of her family. Mary Ann was a fun, loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grand-mother, mother-in-law, big sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, who touched many lives and who will be missed by all who knew her. She lived a good life, and everyone who knew her is deeply saddened by her untimely and unexpected passing. She is predeceased by her parents, Pieter and Loretta du Toit, her husband of 37 years - Cyril, and her siblings Loretta Swart and Peter du Toit. She is survived by her loving daughters Karen and Chantal, two grand daughters, Gabrielle and Charisse, her sons-in-Law Craig Johnston and Lee Quinn, and her twin siblings Arnold du Toit and Arlene Vermaak; and a host of other family and friends.
