Michael S Dickerson's Obituary
Michael Stephan “Mike” Dickerson, 66, of Manatee County, Florida, peacefully transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior in the early hours of April 10, 2026, at his home in Palmetto, Florida, surrounded by his loving wife and close family members, following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma (cancer).
Born on February 15, 1960, in Pembroke, Kentucky, to the late Otis and Alta Dickerson, Michael was the thirteenth of fifteen children. He was known as a busy, curious spirit—always tinkering, taking things apart, and putting them back together again. Whether exploring wooded areas or finding creative ways to solve problems, Michael’s hands and mind were always at work. His older sisters often recalled how, even as a larger person, he would call on them for backup when he found himself in trouble—never quite realizing just how big, strong and capable he was.
Michael attended Christian County Public Schools, where he played football and shared his love of music. That passion followed him into adulthood, where he became known as the family’s unofficial DJ—sharing songs, setting the tone for gatherings, and bringing joy through music wherever he went.
Michael did a short stint in the U.S. Army before his many years working as a truck driver, a career that suited his love for freedom and the open road. Even in his final days, his desire was simple yet profound—to take one more long ride. He was gifted with his hands and completed countless do-it-yourself projects, building structures and home additions that stand today.
Michael was baptized on October 1, 1974 and while living in Detroit, Michael met the love of his life, Vivian. Their connection led him to Florida in 1987, where they began building a life together. They were married in 1988 and shared 37 years of love.
He will be remembered for the way he showed up for people—with music, laughter, and presence. Michael made sure there was always a soundtrack, always a vibe, always a moment to enjoy. That was his gift: creating atmosphere, connection, and joy.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Gregory, Demetris, Jerome, Carl, and Lenard; and two sisters, Evette and Carolyn.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Vivian; his children, Mandel Ware and Iesha Dickerson; and his children from his marriage, Christopher Thompson (Natasha) and Milton Willingham (Tanya). He is also survived by four brothers, Austin Buckner (Faye), James (Diane), and Otis (Josephine) and Lavaughn; and three sisters, Annette Henry (Esau), Sandra Burise, and Loraine Dickerson.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Krishtain, Kaliyiah, Kaliq, Kaliese, Jalen, Taya, Kenya, Donovan (Brianna), Dylan, Colby (Amani), and Kayla; and his great-grandchildren: Zaidyn, Hendrix, Dash Michael, Azar, Atreyu, Areli, and Ambrose, along with a host of extended family members and loved ones.
Michael’s life was marked by love, resilience, creativity, and connection. His hands built, his heart loved, and his music brought people together. He leaves behind—a life well lived and deeply felt.
The family will receive friends Friday April 17,2026 from 6:00- 8:00pm at Skyway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday April 18, 2026 at SkywayMemorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel Chapel. Interment will follow services at the cemetery.
