Grace Cubas
Aunt Leona was our mentor, friend, and example in 1981 when we first arrived in Puerto Suarez. She successfully ran a Christian bookstore and taught in the local church. She always specified (with a twinkle in her eye) that she wasn't a woman preacher and she wasn't preaching because she stood behind a table instead of a pulpit.
As missionaries with a newborn and a 2 1/2 year old, she welcomed us to share her tiny house with her and her cocker spaniel, Blacky. She showed us how to put kerosene in the tin cans under each leg of the bed and pull it away from the wall so that ticks, spiders and other "critters" would not bother. She introduced us to all her friends around town and showed us what we needed to know. She laughed with us and loved us. One of her favorite games was Othello where you flip the disks from black to white and back again. She was good!
Her walk with the Lord was a visible reminder of the source of her strength and companionship. She loved Jesus and served Him faithfully. Today they are together. We are grateful for the impact she had on our family, and we rejoice that she is at home...where she really wanted to be.
With love,
Cesar and Grace Cubas
