Richard B Edson's Obituary
Richard Bruce Edson of Casco, Maine passed peacefully in Bradenton, FL on February 17, 2021, with his wife of 46 years, and his children by his side.
He is predeceased by his father George Edson, Casco, ME and his stepfather Donald Wyman, North Berwick, ME.
Dick is lovingly survived and remembered by his wife, Roberta Merrill Edson, Casco, ME, his son Jerred Edson and wife Christine, Limington, ME; his grandsons Hunter and Tanner Edson, Limington, ME; his daughter, Cressi Edson Hawthorne and Husband Brad, Naples, ME; his mother Mary Edson Wyman, Portland, ME; his brother, Robert Edson and wife Pam, Gray, ME; his sister, Nancy Edson Leighton and husband Gary, Williamsburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was born in Portland, ME on July 4, 1953, the first-born son of George and Mary Edson, Casco, ME. He graduated from Lake Region High School in 1971 and went on to earn an associates degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography at SMCC in 1974. He and his family spent several years in Marlboro, NY raising their family and making life-long friends. He enjoyed the time spent on the Hudson River, doing environmental studies. After several years in NY the family returned to Dick’s hometown, Casco, ME. Dick and Roberta recently retired to spend time in Bradenton, FL as their “snowbird” home.
Dick found joy in all things athletic. Whether playing sports like basketball when he was younger or watching live sporting events. His children cannot remember their father ever missing one of their games. He enjoyed sharing his “love of the game” with younger generations. Those who were blessed enough to receive his encouragement will have fond memories of his instruction such as “wrist-snap, spin-back and follow-through”.
A private family memorial time will be planned for a later date.
