Richard F Judkins' Obituary
Remembering the life and legacy of Richard F. Judkins, M.D. who passed away at the age of 86 in Palmetto, FL after an unexpected illness. His devotion to his family and firm faith in God supported him in this struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Born in Worcester, MA to the late Charles Ira Judkins and Amy Friden Judkins, Richard was the younger brother to the late Charles Ira Judkins, Jr. (Nancy). After high school graduation in Worcester, he entered Brown University in PreMed, playing varsity football and baseball. Upon graduation, he attended Boston University Medical School and completed a five-year residency at Rhode Island Hospital. He then served two years in the Navy as an ENT, Head and Neck surgeon during the Vietnam War.
In 1970, he began his medical career at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI, followed by The City of Faith in Tulsa, OK, then The Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, OH, where it was a sincere privilege to always lend his helping hands to his patients. The highlight of his medical career was serving on medical mission trips, especially to the Dominican Republic, where he was known as "El Caballo," the workhorse.
In 1972, Richard married Linda (Hillman), his beloved wife of 51 years. He was the proud father of five children: Dr. Jennifer Judkins Godin (Luke), Kristen Judkins, Richard Bijorn Judkins, Gwen Dodson (David), and Bret Judkins (Tiffany). His eleven grandchildren brought joy and laughter into his life. His love and leadership will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
In Richard's words: He is now "promoted" and is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For the first time, he is singing in tune the words of "Amazing Grace."
There will be no memorial service to respect Richard's wishes. Donations may be made to: Solid Rock International, P.O. Box 4563, Carmel, IN 46082, supporting the continued clinic and hospital work in Dominican Republic. Donations may also be made to Tidewell Hospice, 4151 37TH St E, Palmetto, FL 34221.
