Ruth Marie Smith's Obituary
Ruth Marie Smith, 86, of Bradenton, FL, passed away April 17, 2016. Ruth was born in Lynn, MA to the late; William James and Beatrice Howell Pugh. After high school, Ruth gained employment as a bookkeeper in the utilities department for the Town of Essex. In 1967, she married Warren K. Smith and their family grew to seven children. They made a wonderful life together that would span the next 48 years. They moved from Massachusetts to Cudjoe Key, FL where they resided for 25 years before moving to Bradenton fifteen years ago. Ruth enjoyed watching Tampa Bay Rays baseball, cooking, needlework, cross stitching and sewing. She also loved square dancing, so it was only fitting for her to own her own square dancing apparel store in Danvers, MA, in which she named "My Square Lady." She was known locally as the lady with the bicycle helmet.
Ruth Smith is survived by her sons; Stephen Madden, of Bradenton, FL, Dennis (Tracey) Madden, of Bradenton, FL, Bruce (Carol) Smith, of Albany, NY, daughters; Sue (Mark) Messina, of Bradenton, FL, Beverly (Raymond) Laurenza, of Sanford, NC, Sandra (Chris) Sanford, of Springfield, MO, Linda Smith, of Jacksonville, FL. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harold Pugh and her husband, Warren Smith in 2015.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Faith United Methodist Church of Bradenton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's name may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Bradenton Hospice House, 2504 34th Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34205.
