Sandra Lee Weber's Obituary
Sandra Lee Weber, 83, passed on April 17th, 2024. She had recently been in the hospital with Covid and although she managed to return to her own bed in Westminster Shores, she never fully recovered.
Born in Ringwood, NJ, on June 16, 1940, Sandy lived with her brother Ron and mother and father, Phyllis and Emil Krommer. She attended Wayne High School and then, after graduation, worked in Bell Labs as a technical writer. Sandy knew her future husband, Richard, long before they started dating because he was friends with her older brother, Ron. When they were in their teens, Richard asked Sandy to accompany him on their first date, which was the celebration of his parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. Things went quite well. Richard knew he had found someone special and they soon started seriously dating. Theirs was a marriage filled with love, trust, and joy and they were lucky to enjoy 63 wonderful years together.
Sandy was a sophisticated, intelligent, beautiful, caring, and fun lady. She was a volunteer not only in her children’s schools, but also in the Junior League, the Special Olympics, Children’s Cancer Research Fund, and the New Comers Association in Edina, MN. She was also very athletic and excelled at any sport she tried; but her love was tennis. She won numerous awards like the 1996 Mixed Double Championship at Longboat Key Club and she played Doubles in the Advanced Division, just one level below pro. She was a ranked player in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) into her 70’s.
Her competitiveness extended well beyond tennis. Sandy frequently won any card or board game she played – ask her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nana – her intelligence and good luck always made her hard to beat! One of Sandy’s favorite games was Mahjong, which she played regularly with her friends and family. It is a passion that Sandy passed down to her children and grandchildren, many of whom now possess their own beautifully decorated Mahjong sets.
Sandy was an avid reader, belonging to several book clubs throughout the years and she always had shelves of books in her home and a book on her night table. Being an artistic person, she enjoyed decoupage and needlepoint projects. She was kind enough to make each of her kids and grandkids a personalized needlepoint Christmas stocking and now we will always have that thoughtful reminder of her during the holidays. Sandy was also a seasoned traveler and had the privilege of visiting Turkey, Egypt, Australia, Brazil, France, England, Italy and several other countries alongside her husband and best friend, Richard.
Sandy was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people. She will be missed in all of these roles. She was caring, giving and supported and loved all of us in so many ways. The wonderful memories are endless.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Richard Weber; her children Kim (Walt) Weyler, Kristine Ferry, and Eric (Liam) Weber; and by her seven grandchildren: Jessica, Kassi, Sarah, Ashley, Jack, Matt and Tim.
A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held at The Towers at Westminster Shores at 1700 3rd Ave in Bradenton on Saturday, May 4th, 10:30am.
