Missing you everyday but especially today T-Ma. Happy Spiritual Birthday.
Love Mom
To the family of Tiera Lundy,
I was just informed by one of Tiera’s classmate that Tiera had passed away. I had her for ASL 1 and 2 years ago. Her classmate was also in my class and told me this unfortunate news.
I remember the first day of classes when Tiera came to my class. She was very nervous and quite shy. She didn’t say too much for the first week. It wasn’t until one of other students name Sarah Jordan and someone else took her under their wing. They were older than most students and they were so nice to her. That gave her some confidence to sign stuff. In time, she grew more confident and it was obvious she really got into ASL.
When she came back for ASL II, she had changed into a different person. She actually was signing a lot more on the first day. I was surprised how much she was signing since most students tend to be rusty.
The class was small in that semester but it was perfect for her. She became good friends with the students. She really had a great time with the group and she was like one of them. They often meet up early before the class starts just so they can chat. They would even be signing too. Sometimes I would be walking in when they are laughing about something. It was like a private club that Tiera had truly enjoyed a lot. She was always smiling a lot. It was nice to see her smiling since she didn’t smiled that much in ASL I.
She really had a great attitude. I had loved how she would bring humor to any situation in the class. She was also quite respectful to me and others.
I didn’t know until much later that she likes to write. It made sense because she didn’t write boring papers. She took writing papers seriously.
She did request to have accommodations but she didn’t really didn’t use them in my class. I guessed she felt it was fairly easy. She took the test like everyone else. She never got upset if her test score was not as high as others.
At the end of ASL, she had said she hopes to use it working with children who may need to use ASL. That was nice to hear since she was going to impart what she had learned in my class.
I never know who will walked in my class every semester. I enjoyed meeting all walks of life. I may be a teacher but I am also a student of life since the students do teach me about their life. Tiera did exactly that for me. I thought it was cool she was from Pennsylvania since I used to go there a lot growing up. I even went to school for a short time. So that was our connection since we did talked about Pennsylvania.
The last time I got to see Tiera was at the deaf expo called It’s a Deaf Thing. She came with her group and her mom was there as well. I had the pleasure of meeting her mom. Her mom was sweet like Tiera so that was nice to meet someone who raised Tiera. That day, Tiera really had a lot of fun with her ASL group. She was laughing a lot and smiled a lot since it gave her a sense of belonging.
Yes she was taken way too soon. I am sorry for the loss and I will not forget her even though I’ve probably taught over 300 students. Rest assured that I will not forget her since she was a special student.

We will never forget our “Angel Warrior”, who fought the “..good fight”..! She
accomplished so much in the short time she was with us on this earth. I still
remember her saying, “ I just want to get back to school.”
God bless her. May she Rest In Peace!
