Vickie was the first friend I made when my husband and I relocated our family to Bradenton, FL in 2005. She and I had a lot in common and we became friends instantly. We were both born in November (1 year apart), we were both nurses, we were both happily married close to 20 years. We both moved to the area for our children to attend The David Leadbetter Golf Academy. We even lived in the same neighborhood! Vickie and I also worked together for a couple of years at IMG Academies. She taught me a lot about being a school nurse. She was very nice and empathetic but don’t try to cross her or she was a force to be reckoned with! We enjoyed shopping, dining out, wine, gardening and decorating our homes. Vickie had such a good eye for interior decorating and she would always give me great ideas. I still have the beautiful painting she gave me for a bare wall in my home. Vickie was such a sweet, kind, funny, lovable, dependable friend. It was so fun to hang out with her and hear her tell stories with her cute southern accent. But after we both moved to homes further away, we lost touch with one another. Several years passed. Until one day last Fall, out of the blue, my eldest daughter ran into her at a craft store. It had been about 7 years since they’d seen one other and they were both crying tears of joy to have been brought there at the same time by God. My daughter said Vickie missed me and wanted to reconnect. I was so excited to see my ole pal again. After so much time passing you’d think it would be awkward. But no— not with Vickie. We picked up right where we left off! We went out to lunch, shared stories, laughed, cried, then browsed around in the local shops by the pier. It was so great to have my friend back in my life and we made plans to get together at least on a monthly basis. Vickie and I continued to keep in touch over the next few months by texting, sharing inspirational messages and reflecting on God’s Word. We met for lunch at least once more before the end of 2021 and were planning to see one another again soon…
Although I’m very sad to lose my dear friend, I am so grateful that God allowed us a few more special memories. Vickie was a true friend to me and my family. She had very strong faith in God’s plan. I believe she is now at peace and is receiving her eternal reward in Heaven. Rest in Paradise, dear friend. You earned it girl. I’ll always cherish how you blessed my life with your friendship.
Love, Gianna Howard and family (Robert, Ginger, Robbi, ArJay & Giulian)
