Warren E Simmons' Obituary
Warren Edward Simmons was born in Hannibal New York in 1924 to Mary and Earl Simmons. He would say the most important event of his life occurred as a teenager at Ontario Bible Conference where he met the One who would change his life forever.
He became a jeweler like is father. Even in the Marines, though a gunnery Sargent, they had him fixing watches. While stationed in Philadelphia he met his future wife Mildred Walters at a USO dance... that ended in 73 years of love and marriage. He fought in Okinawa and Saipan in World War II.
Deeply moved after witnessing the death of a child in Okinawa, he returned from WWII and gave up his jewelers business to give his life to helping and reaching children for Christ. His 1st work was reaching out to needy kids from NYC at a camp called Streamside. An extraordinary communicator, he spent 45 years training teachers how to reach children, working with and leading children's camps and relentlessly sharing the great Change-Agent that had forever changed his own life. He was a missionary to children with Fellowship of Baptists for Home Missions and Continental Baptist Mission. He planted churches. And he never stopped sharing his beloved Christ... even in his last week of life despite the diminishment of dementia.
He passed away on Friday, February 7th at 95 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mildred Simmons, his son and daughter-in-love, Dan and Rebecca Simmons and his two grandchildren, Andrew and Kirsten.
He was preceded in death my his beloved son, Dana, 51 years ago. Now they are together at last.
A Graveside service will be Thursday February 13 at 12:30 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery.
