Willard George Baker's Obituary
Willard George Baker, 95, of Palmetto, passed away peacefully November 8, 2017, surrounded by loved ones, Stephanie Lambert and his nurse, Nina Schneeberger.
Born October 23, 1922, in La Crosse Wisconsin, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth Schiller Baker. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty McRae Baker; four brothers, Harry, Russell, Ray and Jim Baker.
Survivors also include three step-children, Jim, Vickie, and Frankie.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and worked as a tabulating machine operator. Mr. Baker was a United States Army Airforce veteran. He served our country from Feb. 10 1943, as Technical Sergeant, squadron B 350 8th Army Air forces BU, Truax Field, in WI. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 3, 1945. Mr. Baker then worked with the Alaska Railroad, Weather Bureau, in Alaska, and FAA in Anchorage, Alaska, before retiring to Palmetto, FL. He was an avid golfer and sailor.
A gathering of friends will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, from 11:00 - 11:30, at Skyway Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will take place following the service at Sarasota National Cemetery at 1pm.
