William "Dick" Sutfin's Obituary
William R. "Dick" Sutfin, 85, of Bradenton, FL and longtime resident of Oberlin, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 9, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born in Oberlin, Ohio to the late William R. and Alma G. Sutfin. William received his bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and joined the US Marine Corps 1957, flying helicopters for the Marine Helicopters Squadron HML-264 out the Marine Corps Air Facility, Jacksonville, NC. After a tour of four years active duty, he taught school in the Lorain City Public School serving as teacher of science, Supervisor of Axillary Services, Supervisor of Physical Education and Assistant Principal until 1988. He moved to Bradenton, FL in 1990 and enjoyed his retirement playing golf, reading and being with a group of good friends. He and Marie married in 2002 in Hawaii and enjoyed several cruise vacations and many happy times together.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Marie (Sellars) Sutfin; his three children, Debra Hunt of Warren, Ohio, Rick Sutfin of Fairmont, West Virginia and Katie Golden of Amherst, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his stepchildren, Lisa Bryan, James Horak, David Horak; 5 step-grandchildren and 4 great step-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for Dick at Sarasota National Cemetery with full military honors on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10am. Arrangements have been entrusted to Skyway Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, www.skywaymemorial.com. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital in his name is appreciated.
