Barbara J Hughes' Obituary
• It is not an easy thing to say, but our beloved Barbara Jane Hughes passed away on March 26, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born on the farm in Elma, Michigan on March 19, 1934. Blessed with the gift of gab, she made friends everywhere she went; and how could she not? With her charming Midwestern sayings, her lilting laugh, and her sharp tongue. She loved Country Western movies, cowboys, and John Wayne. Mother to six, grandmother to eleven, and great-grandmother to eight and counting. She was a woman who lived and loved with a great ferocity. In her career at the telephone company, she was a union member and a trailblazer, being one of the first women to work at the central office (a position at the time, reserved for men). She will be remembered as a kick-ass woman, a beautiful and loving matriarch, and most of all as a chatterbox. Barbara, until we meet again, happy trails to you.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father Roy and Jenny Pyle, her husband, Harry Hughes, brothers Basil, Doyt, and Bill Pyle, her sister Anna Huffine, and her son Earl Quisenberry.
She is survived by her sister Helen, her children Dana Quisenberry, Debra Silver, Lynn Quisenberry, Patti Wilkins, and Wayde Quisenberry, her grandchildren Boe Quisenberry, Kelly Silver, William Silver, Julee Slack, Christian Silver, Dylan Ruston, Ali Ruston, Sean Wilkins, Seth Wilkins, Carson Quisenberry, and Leah Quisenberry, and her great grandchildren Carly Quisenberry, Marie Quisenberry, Asher Silver, Baker Silver, Zeppelin Silver, Bradley Ruston, Emily Ruston, and Zuri Wilkins.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, located in downtown Bradenton where she was a church member. The service will be held on April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to honor her memory may make a contribution to Tidewell Hospice. Barbara will forever remain in our hearts.
