Dear Maggie and Mike,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We will surely miss visiting with Doris during our trips to Florida.
We will definitely miss her homemade cooking, especially her delicious homemade cheesecake and meringue pies at Thanksgiving. We often visited at the kitchen table talking and reading about herbal remedies and holistic living.
Terry and I share her love of animals. I remember sitting with her on her front porch feeding the pigeons. Doris talked about their unusual antics and she always watched for hawks! The squirrels also loved it when we fed the pigeons because they always got a share of the food. Doris would often share stories about the latest stray dog or cat she rescued. There are too many to name. The animal kingdom has certainly lost a grand benefactor.
I am personally grateful for my fondest gifts from Doris; our phone calls and her handwritten letters. In this age of electronic communication, it was always a wonderful surprise to find a handwritten letter in the mail. Doris would send handwritten letters or cards just to say hi or that she was thinking about me. Doris sent get well cards (always with a cat or dog on it) with hand written notes when I was having surgery. I will treasure these handwritten letters and cards forever.
Our family is fortunate to have met such a wonderful woman. Terry and I and our family send our deepest condolences to you on the loss of your mother.
