Virginia Marie Ortiz's Obituary
Virginia Marie Ortiz, 72, of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Blessed by the presence of the family who loved her and surrounded her, Ginny died at home on December 29, after a long battle with Cancer and other complications. In faith, she knew to whom she belonged and now sees her God face to face.
Ginny was born in Cambridge on March 7, 1950, and grew up in Arlington, MA. Met her husband, Manuel Ortiz, who predeceased her in 2010. They spent a good portion of their life together in New Jersey. Ginny always referred to Mannie as the love of her life, and we celebrate in the knowledge that they are together again.
She was also predeceased by her parents Lillian and John Crawford.
She is survived by her daughter, Loreen (Lorena) Ortiz-Hadley(Sadow) and son David Ortiz (Gloryvee), 7 grandchildren - Lorena Ortiz, Jasmine Ortiz, Gialyse Ortiz, Makai Ortiz, Tiara Ortiz, David Ortiz, Yoliemi Rodriguez, 6 great grandchildren - Evalise Ortiz, Josiah Ortiz, Dale D’angelo Ortiz, Eli Ortiz, Isabella Ortiz, and Jaciel Ortiz, her sister, Mary Pat Norwicki, her step-mother, Mary Crawford, and half-sister, Kelly O’Shea, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly, especially with Shannon Colon-Banks and Walter McFarland with whom she had a special relationship. Finally, Macy the family dog who misses her greatly.
Ginny worked as an RN in the hospital setting early in her career, but most of her profession was spent in hospice work which was a true calling for her. Her joy was in making sure other people were well cared for.
Upon moving to Florida in 2014, she worked with the homeless through her church. She was always the first to help when family or friends needed assistance. She often put others ahead of herself.
Besides her family, she also enjoyed spending time with her friends. Among them, were Bea, Linda, Sharon, Mimi, and Kathleen with whom she had special bonds. She loved the beach and spending time bird watching, something she could do to her heart’s content in Florida.
We will miss her physical presence in our lives, but we can rejoice in the promise that she is with Jesus. Well done good and faithful servant.
Visitation will be Saturday January 7, 2023 from 1-2pm with a service at 2pm at Skyway Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5200 US Highway 19 N Palmetto, FL 34221.
